My Training Approach
Dogs are extraordinary animals
My training approach is relationship based. With every training interaction you should be asking yourself "Is this helping or hurting my relationship with my dog?"
In animal professional terms my approach is called LIMA (Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive). But, I try to steer families and animal professionals away from thinking in those simple terms because understanding a dogs mind and needs is much more complicated.
Understanding your dogs social, emotional, and physical needs as well as their evolutionary and breed tendencies is at the heart of great training. Understanding cognition and behavior science is also key, as is lots of practical experience with thousands of families and dogs of every age, breed, and size. And that is what I bring to you.
You can rest assured I will listen to you. And understand you know your dog and your situation best. My role is to provide information, experience, ideas and strategies, and when appropriate partnerships with other animal professionals such as vets to help you and your dog have the happiest life together that you can have.
My Story
Training Animals - Training People - Building Love
My name is Anne. In 2004 I left Corporate America to follow my dream and open Minneapolis’ first Dog Daycare and Boarding. Downtown Dogs. I grew Downtown Dogs to a multi million dollar business over the course of 10 years caring for thousands of dogs and training hundreds of employees, many of whom are stellar animal professionals in their own right today.
What was the secret to my success? Passion for dog behavior and passion for people. I sold Downtown Dogs in 2014 to an amazing person who I knew would take good care of it. But I left a piece of my heart there. I took off several years to raise my young children. And now, I use the knowledge of dog behavior, people leadership, and operations to offer innovative, social/play dog training classes, and staff training to veterinary clinics, dog daycares, and training businesses.
I have trained and competed in agility, flyball, and obedience with my beloved dogs. But I specialize in play and social behavior.
If you are a successful animal business owner, chances are, staffing is your greatest stress. (Customers and dogs may be a close second, and they are all interrelated). I can help you train new trainers, dog daycare attendants, so you can focus on operating your business. I love to do it and I’d love to help you.
